Energy and Economics - Opportunities for Oregon
There is currently a flurry of activity around the world to understand and address our energy challenges, and this presents a potentially significant economic development opportunity for Oregon. The City Club will kick off 2009 on January 15th with a discussion about energy. The Club will welcome Steve Hummel, Vice President of Engineering at PV Powered, one of Oregon's largest solar power Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
Hummel says "the time is now to catalyze this economic growth engine, but to get in the game, we will need to identify and converge our opportunities with a critical mass." He will discuss the experiences of PV Powered in the solar power market, and talk about ongoing government efforts to enable innovation and accelerate creation of renewable energy technologies and businesses. He will also present a primer on assets that exist in Oregon, and some thoughts on how we might collectively motivate efforts to leverage these assets to spur economic growth through renewable energy business development.
The Forum will begin at 11:30 and conclude at 1:00 p.m. City Club Forums are conducted at St. Charles Center for Health and Learning, 2500 NE Neff Road in Bend.
Preregistration is required by January 12 at 5:00 p.m. The cost to members is $13.00 for lunch. Nonmembers pay $25.00.
