America's Current Healthcare System:
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The City Club of Central Oregon with the generous support of Clear Choice Health Plans will conduct a three program series on healthcare reform. The initial gathering on August 13, 2008 will be focused on the current state of healthcare. The September 17 gathering will focus on the future state of healthcare - or building a vision for healthcare, and finally on October 14 the focus will be on closing the gap between current and future, or creating a concrete design for change. All sessions will take place from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.
This series will employ a World Cafe methodology to investigate the topics with Series Facilitator, John Blakinger leading the process and Teresa Bidlake, Graphic Facilitator, serving as the event recorder. Jim Lussier, Founder TLC/The Lussier Center and Stephen Hacker, Founder, Transformational Systems International, LLC. will provide background and relevant facts to initiate and inform discussion.
There are no fees associated with this event - but preregistration is required. Please click here to register for the event - or use the contact us link to let us know you plan to attend.
The series will take place at the Clear Choice Health Plans office building at 2965 NE Conners Ave. in Bend, OR. Please call Robyn Sharp at 541-633-7163 for more information or to RSVP via phone.
Healthcare issues will be approached through four distinct lenses:
-
The Array of Services Provided (From preventive and chronic care to acute and advanced trauma care)
-
The Major Providers of Care (From physician and hospital services to all other institutions and organizations that provide health services including schools and governmental services)
-
Responsibilities for Health (From the role of individual responsibility to those of care providers and government)
-
The Payment Mechanism by which Healthcare is Funded (How funding mechanisms drive the design of the healthcare system and who pays for what)
Overall key issues in assessing our current system, developing a vision for a new system of care and designing a successful path to realize that transformation will include:
Equitable Access to Appropriate Health Care Services
The Cost of Healthcare
Timeliness and Character of Services Provided
The Appropriate Role of Technology
Range and TIming of Services Provide
The Role of Insurance and Who Provides It
The overall purpose of the series is to share grass root perspectives on the issues of healthcare, educate participants on what is possible and subsequently to identify a path of how we might get there. It will provide a basis for discussing these issues with those currently seeking public office where healthcare reform is a key focus and for citizen participation in health reform initiatives.
