CENTRAL OREGON AFFORDABILITY - DO WE WANT IT? AT WHAT COST?
Presented in partnership with US Bank
Central Oregon is a vast playground for those with means. Golf resorts, skiing, outdoor adventures, upscale houses, fine dining and entertainment are all part of the attractive Central Oregon lifestyle that contributes to its booming population. However, the high priced land, expensive houses and upscale living obscure the reality of region that challenges its workforce to afford to live here.
Access to healthcare, transportation, public safety, education, and other basic services becomes problematic when the people that provide the services can no longer afford to live in the region.
How then do the citizens of Central Oregon work on creating a balance? How do we build a community by design that reflects the vision of its citizens? Do we want affordability to be a priority in the region? Are we willing to make sacrifices for the community we want?
