Vision for Healthcare Cafe Summary

A Vision for an Equitable System of Healthcare

The City Club of Central Oregon and Clear Choice Health Plans conducted the second in a series of three, Health Care Reform World Cafe gatherings. The graphic below depicts the outcome of the discussion as attendees discussed the critical components of a future system of healthcare that reflects a broad, unrestrained vision for building an equitable system of healthcare. The Vision summary is provided below.

Session III will now merge the lessons of the previous two session. By identifying the Good and Bad of our Current System, then creating A Vision for a Future System, the final step is to close the gap between the two. On October 14th the final World Cafe will be conducted at the Clear Choice Health Plans offices. The City Club will discuss A Design for Change - Goals and a Willingness to Adopt a New System of Care. A large part of this discussion will focus on those compromises that have to occur to make progress for all. The Forum will be conducted from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. There is no cost associated with this event, although preregistration is required.

SESSION II VISION SUMMARY

The American Wellness System provides basic wellness services for all Americans from prenatal to end of life care. The wellness system is simple to access and easily understandable from the consumer’s perspective. Community service is the engine that drives the American Wellness System.

  • Education is a major part of Wellness services. All wellness services are coordinated and may include a personal coach who assists with matching wellness needs with services and providers.
  • All members of the community contribute to the wellness system. In addition to medical professionals, many roles within the community have significant contributions to the wellness system including: teachers, medical profession students, grocers, and sports clubs. More individuals are medical professionals due to reduced cost of medical education.
  • The individual is ultimately responsible for his wellness and is supported by a system that incents wellness in all of the service providers. Individuals choose providers. Individuals may choose to have and pay for special care.
  • Basic wellness services will be limited and provided to all individuals.
Individuals pay for basic wellness care and may be subsidized by society. Risk of catastrophic care is pooled by groups and ultimately the entire society. Financial success of the American Wellness System is dependent on limits to care offered. Consumer choice and tort reform reduces service costs and identifies ineffective providers.
