The City Club of Central Oregon has been established to build a conscious and civic-minded community through dialog, education and research that results in responsible civic engagement. As such, we honor and encourage the exploration of new ideas and a free exchange of thought in a collegial setting through debate, discourse, discussion and objective inquiry.
The City Club of Central Oregon believes in the free expression of all ideas and the benefits of an open exchange. It is non-partisan and does not take positions on issues. Presenters are free to express their perspectives and will be asked to respond to unfiltered, unrehearsed questions directly from our members and guests.
To that end, City Club members will:
- Act with the respect for the dignity of every individual by treating all with diplomacy and integrity
- Assist in creating an impartial and objective forum of free and fair expression
- Seek to understand through exploration with others, drawing upon the wisdom of all
- Honor each individual traveling the same path of discovery, honoring each other’s perspective and spirit in which it is expressed
- Stand in the place of a learner, with a bias toward inquiry before stating one’s own perspective, where prejudice grows less and bias dwindles
- Governing our own interactions by what is helpful in building community bonds, seeking common ground or at least common understanding, and ultimately creating a community that works for all
We are the product of our community and it of us, strong in our collective strength and believe that knowledge creates wisdom. We thus welcome the free expression of ideas in which our region has an interest and we reserve the right of every member to create their own convictions and each to retain responsibility for them.
The City Club is accessible to all.
