City Club of Central Oregon Membership Scholarships

The City Club of Central Oregon is a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the betterment of the central Oregon region. It solicits donors from local and regional organizations as well as individuals dedicated to the mission of the City Club to assist in funding a variety of City Club programs, including initial development of programs and activities, research and scholarships.

A scholarship program will be available to individuals who otherwise could not participate as a member of the City Club or participate in its programs or activities. A specific amount shall be budgeted each year for funding of scholarships and that amount shall be allocated by quarter during the fiscal year. Scholarships may be awarded beginning the first day of each quarter until that amount is exhausted. Any remaining amount in a quarter may be allocated to the next quarter to continue to fund the scholarship program. The annual budgeted amount for scholarships may not be exceeded without the approval of the Board of Directors.

A request for a scholarship to fund the annual dues of a proposed member, or for a specific program sponsored by the City Club of Central Oregon shall be made in writing to the Executive Director. The request shall state the nature of the request, the amount sought, and provide the rationale for the request. Scholarship funds shall not be granted for attendance to a regularly scheduled monthly program of the City Club.

Priority in Awarding Scholarship Funds:

1. The individual could not participate in City Club activities without such assistance

2. Individuals who are in the start-up phase of their businesses or careers

3. Students who are enrolled in a course of study at least ½ time

4. Priority will be given to the funding of annual dues for a prospective member over other potential uses such as special programs

Scholarships shall not be awarded on the basis of a business or individual seeking to simply avoid the expense of City Club membership.

Scholarships will be granted by the Finance Committee, upon the recommendation of the Executive Director.

During the initial start-up of the City Club of Central Oregon, and when there is no historical way to judge the need for scholarship assistance based upon the above priorities, application for scholarships will be taken but not acted upon until March 1, 2007. In its initial budget, the finance committee will recommend to the board an amount for funding the initial year’s scholarship program. The Executive Director shall then present his/her recommendation to the Finance Committee

Due to the generous contributions of City Club donors, scholarships exist to cover membership dues for students, seniors, and those to whom the payment of membership fees pose a financial hardship.

Requests for financial assistance will be reviewed by the City Club Membership Committee and scholarships will be made available as resources allow.
